Kawsay Cacao was born from two main desires: honor this sacred plant
and make known the Peruvian ceremonial cacao with everyone while
preserving and protecting the culture of our cacao.
After living in different regions of breathtaking Peru, and experiencing from the original source the cultures that inhabit them, we rediscovered the Peruvian cacao in its whole expression and learned about its unique attributes and properties. A few months later, we decided to start this amazing journey and take the Peruvian cacao to another level for sharing it with the whole world.
This is how Kawsay Cacao was born, from two main desires, which have now become our mission: honor this sacred plant and make known the Peruvian ceremonial cacao with everyone whilst preserving and protecting the culture of our cacao.
Probably, many of you don’t know that Peru has one of the finest 100% pure ceremonial grade cacao made from native varieties, which has been used throughout its history and various cultures. Each bean of our cacao is not only ethically sourced and sustainably made, but it also fascinates everyone who tries it thanks to its explosion of unique aromas and exceptional flavor.
Kawsay Cacao is grown in the lower part of the western slopes of the Andes, in the Peruvian rainforest, between 300-900 m.a.s.l., and also in the vast northern coast of the country. Currently, we offer two types of cacaos coming from the magnificent Andes and the stounding rainforest. And yes, we promise to bring you soon a new cacao type coming from the North Coast 😉
Although nowadays Kawsay Cacao is based in the northern part of Peru, we work with smallholder growers across two of the three Peru regions, who sow and harvest only small-scale batches of cacao aimed mainly at their own consumption, at their communities, as well as small local markets. We know first-hand the source of our cacao beans, that’s why we offer you ceremonial cacao by assuring you that is responsibly grown and sustainably sourced. Also, we are proud to deliver our cacao in the most ethical way since our foundations are based on wellness and sustainability.
We are also aware that taking care of the planet is a shared responsibility among all of us, that’s why we offer ceremonial cacao taking into account our responsibility quota. So, for grounding a sustainable future where every party involved in the process are benefited -from growers to customers-, we care for the people who we work with, nourishing their lives through the power of social and regenerative economy, and protecting the lands and ecosystems from where our cacao comes from, thus honoring its places of origin. We firmly believe that by providing the Peruvian cacao growers with work on a regular basis we can help to strengthen their families and communities, and in turn, they can continue growing cacao following their ancient sustainable agriculture techniques, protecting the environment, and holding onto their own traditions, as well as preserving them.
